Christian abortion counselling
Sunday 1 July was the Catholic Church's Day for Life, instituted by the late Pope John Paul II. This year it marked the 40th anniversary of the Act that made abortion legal in the UK.
Recently Catholic bishops have been stepping up their anti-abortion message. Doctors attending the British Medical Association's conference have recommended relaxing the rules to allow women quicker access to abortion: allowing it to be approved by just one doctor rather than the current two.
The passionate debates about abortion often overlook the experience of the woman facing a decision. There are Christian organisations that counsel and support women, some taking more strident views against abortion than others. Sister Rosanne Reddy co-ordinates the Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative and Nola Leach is chief executive of CARE, an ecumenical network that offers advice and support.
